Morning Beach Conditions

September 27, 2023

HIGH rip current risk at the beaches of Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Pea Island, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Ocean conditions will bring powerful rip and longshore currents with 5 to 9 foot breaking waves from Duck to Buxton. Ocean swimming is not recommended, obey RED flags and stay out of the water!

MODERATE rip current risk south of Cape Hatteras including Frisco, Hatteras Village, & Ocracoke. Only experienced surf swimmers who know how to escape a rip current should enter the water. Never swim alone, always take flotation!

Strongest rip currents often occur a couple hours either side of low tide, which occurs at 1210 pm today.

Cloudy to mostly cloudy skies with a chance of rain. Temperatures will be in the low to mids 70s with breezy north to northeast winds at 20 to 25 mph. Water temperatures: Duck Pier...75. Jennettes Pier..75. Oregon Inlet Marina...75. Rodanthe Pier...74. Avon Pier...76.

Ocean Rescue staffing is at off season levels. Many beaches that had lifeguard stands are now unguarded or covered by a roving patrol.

If help is needed, know your location and call 911!
