Morning Beach Conditions

September 26, 2023

MODERATE rip current risk at the beaches of Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Pea Island, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Only experienced surf swimmers who know how to escape a rip current should enter the water. Never swim alone and always take flotation!

LOW rip current risk south of Cape Hatteras including Frisco, Hatteras Village and Ocracoke. While the risk for rip currents is low, life-threatening rip currents may still be present. Remember LOW risk does not mean NO risk!

Strongest rip currents often occur a couple hours either side of low tide, which occurs at 1105 am today.

Expect mostly cloudy skies with a slight chance of showers on the northern beaches. On Hatteras Island expect partly sunny skies. At all beaches the temperature will be in the lower 70s with a north wind at 10 to 15 mph. Water temperatures: Duck Pier...75. Jennettes Pier..74. Oregon Inlet Marina...75. Rodanthe Pier...75. Avon Pier...76.

Ocean Rescue staffing is at off season levels. Many beaches that had lifeguard stands are now unguarded or covered by a roving patrol.

If help is needed, know your location and call 911!
