Morning Beach Conditions

June 14, 2024

A RED FLAG DAY with HIGH rip current risk at the beaches south of Cape Hatteras including Frisco, Hatteras Village and Ocracoke. Ocean conditions will lead to powerful rip currents. Ocean swimming is not recommended, stay out of the water!

A YELLOW FLAG DAY with MODERATE rip current risk at the beaches at the beaches of Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Pea Island, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon and Buxton. Only experienced surf swimmers who know how to escape a rip current should enter the water. Never swim alone and always take flotation!

Strongest rip currents often occur a couple hours either side of low tide, which was at 810 am with next low around 850 pm today.

On the northern beaches expect sunny skies with temperatures in the lower 80s and northeast winds at 5 to 10 mph.  On Hatteras Island expect mostly sunny skies with a chance rain and temperatures in the lower 80s.  Northeast winds at 10 to 15 mph. Water temperatures: Jennette’s Pier…72. Oregon Inlet Marina...75. Rodanthe Pier...70. Avon Pier...73.

Always swim near a lifeguard. If help is needed, know your location and call 911!
