Based on ocean rescue agency reports and observations the NWS has raised the rip current risk to HIGH making it a RED FLAG DAY south of Cape Hatteras including the ocean beaches at Frisco, Hatteras Village and Ocracoke. Ocean conditions will lead to powerful rip currents and a strong longshore current. Ocean swimming is not recommended, stay out of the water!

​Still LOW rip current risk north of Cape Hatteras including the ocean beaches at Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Pea Island, Rodanthe, Waves. Salvo, Avon and Buxton. Expect a strong longshore current south of Oregon Inlet. While the risk for rip currents is low, life-threatening rip currents may still be present. Remember LOW risk does not mean NO risk!

Strongest rip currents often occur a couple hours either side of low tide, which was around 9: 05 am today.

Expect mostly sunny skies today with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures in the mid to upper 80s. Southwest winds at 10 to 20 mph. Surf height 2 to 4 feet. Water temperatures: Duck Pier...63. Jennettes Pier...68. Oregon Inlet Marina...81. Avon Pier...79.
