MODERATE rip current risk and a strong longshore current along with cool water temperatures that will lead to hypothermia north of Cape Hatteras including Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Pea Island, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon and Buxton. Only experienced surf swimmers who know how to escape a rip current should enter the water wearing thermal protection. Never swim alone, always take flotation!
LOW rip current risk south of Cape Hatteras including Frsico, Hatteras Village and Ocracoke. While the risk for rip currents is low, life-threatening rip currents may still be present. Remember LOW risk does not mean NO risk!
Strongest rip currents often occur a couple hours either side of low tide, which is around 9: 20 am today.
Expect mostly sunny skies until late morning then turning mostly cloudy. Temperatures in the mid to upper 60s. West to northwest winds around 5 mph becoming north at around 20 mph in the afternoon.
