Morning Beach Conditions

May 18, 2024

MODERATE rip current risk continues at the beaches of Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Pea Island, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon and Buxton. Only experienced surf swimmers who know how to escape a rip current should enter the water. Never swim alone and always take flotation!

LOW rip current risk south of Cape Hatteras including Frisco, Hatteras Village and Ocracoke. While the risk for rip currents is low, life-threatening rip currents may still be present.  Remember LOW risk does not mean NO risk!

Strongest rip currents often occur a couple hours either side of low tide, which occurs at 1035 am today.

Expect mostly cloudy to cloudy skies today with showers and scattered thunderstorms likely. Temperatures in the mid to upper 60s with east to southeast winds around 10 mph. Water temperatures: Jennette’s Pier…64. Oregon Inlet Marina...67. Avon Pier...67.

Ocean Rescue staffing is at off season levels with roving patrols on some beaches. If help is needed, know your location and call 911!
